Mama Ngina University College (MNUC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education – Gatundu South Sub-County and the Department of Children Welfare, commemorated the International Day of the African Child 2025 with a vibrant event that also marked the third anniversary of its School Mentorship Programme. MNUC ANNUAL HR WALK Mama Ngina University College held 2nd Annual HR Walk on 16th May 2025. The walk was flagged off by the University College Principal, Prof. Zipporah Ng’ang’a. In her address she emphasized on the importance of fitness among staff. Sponsored by ICEA LION Group and KCB Gatundu branch, the event promoted staff wellness and learning. ICEA LION delivered a session on pension management, while KCB presented financial literacy. The event fostered engagement, empowerment, and staff development.

Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) online application system is open for Revision of Choices for placement of students to universities and colleges for the 2025/2026 Placement Cycle. The Revision will run from 18th to 27th May 2025. Applicants who did not secure a course in the application that ended on April 30, 2025 are invited to log in again and choose remaining courses as listed on the portal. The Human Resource Office conducted a one day staff wellness sensitization and health check up activity for all MNUC staff on Friday 9 th May, 2025. The event was geared up to sensitize staff on mental health, substance abuse related issues as well as understanding the staff medical cover. The event was organized in collaboration with our partners Equity Afya, Madison Insurance, Tranquil medical, Supreme Dental and Eye Modes. Around ninety staff attended the sensitization and connected with the facilitators while also receiving general practitioner, dental and eye consultations.

On 8th May 2025, the World Bank Funded KIEP-SKIES Rapid Tech Skills Monitoring and Evaluation took place Mama Ngina University College (MNUC). Through the KIEP-SKIES Rapid Tech Skills Program, 34 students—21 specializing in Data Science and 13 in Cybersecurity—are gaining critical skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Their learning is supported by 11 expert trainers through a blended model that integrates both in-person and online instruction, ensuring a flexible and comprehensive learning experience.

MNUC BSc. Nursing students joined nurses world- wide in celebration of the international nurses week. The celebrations culminated with an event at the Kiambu County Headquarters hosted by the Governor Kiambu County Kimani Wamatangi who appreciated the great contribution of nurses in enhancing health and well -being in the county. The theme of the nurse’s week was “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies”.

As a public institution, Mama Ngina University College remains committed to implementing annual government performance contracts to enhance service delivery. In line with its commitment to continuous improvement, the University College organized a capacity-building session for all heads of sections, deans and chairpersons of departments, on performance contracting, conducted by the Public Service Performance Management Unit. The training was facilitated by Ms. Felistus Mbuva and Mr. Bernard Biegon.

The Kenya University Biotechnology Consortium (KUBICO) organized a workshop at Serena Hotel – Nairobi to sensitize health care professionals in academia and industry on the role of biotechnology in improving the health and well-being of patients and society at large. The workshop shed more light on the ground breaking advances in Biotechnology to include precision medicine, recombinant DNA Technology, Genetically Modified Foods among others. On Friday, 25th April 2025, Mama Ngina University College held its annual tree planting event. Led by the Principal, Prof. Zipporah Nganga, a team of 40 staff members and students traveled to Ruabora Intake Works in Ndarugu Location for the exercise. The event was organized in partnership with Gatundu Water and Sanitation Company, who provided the site, and KCB (Gatundu and Gikomba branches), who donated the seedlings. On April 16, 2025, Mama Ngina University College staff and students came together to spread love and joy at Gatundu Children’s Home in a memorable Community Social Responsibility (CSR) activity. A total of 25 representatives, comprising 9 students and 16 members of staff, visited the home bearing generous donations of food supplies, basic supplies and clothing for the children. Mama Ngina University College was represented at the University of Embu and Lenovo East Africa Open Day by the Head of ICT, Mr. Isaac Kuria. This Forum brought together ICT Directors from all Universities in the country in a move to harness knowledge in innovative ideas. The Open Day featured interactive sessions, demonstrations and expert-led discussions on Smart Artificial Intelligence (AI) Computing devices, Data Center and Cloud Based infrastructure solutions, Best Practices in ICT Service Management for Universities and Strategies for Digital Transformation and Campus Modernization.

On the 26th and 27th of March 2025, MNUC Heads of Department participated in a Risk Management Training session based   on ISO 31001:2018.  The training was led by Ms. Benedicata Nyambura from Signox Limited, who guided participants through risk based thinking which is a key components of Risk Management, including hands-on activities designed to help participants apply the concepts in real-time. 

The event commenced with an opening address by Deputy Principal, Prof. Thomas Sakwa, who emphasized the significance of sports in fostering a healthy and disciplined society. This was followed by a powerful talk from University Counselor, Dr. Maria Nganga, who highlighted the seriousness of drug-related issues in our communities and reinforced the need for collective action in combating substance abuse. The second cohort of the KIEP-SKIES Rapid Tech Skills Program has officially commenced at MNUC, offering specialized tracks in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence as well as Cyber Security. This initiative is part of the Kenya Industry and Entrepreneurship Program (KIEP), funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry (MITI) through the State Department for Industry (SDI). We are pleased to announce a strategic partnership between Mama Ngina University College and Studium Alliance, bringing high-quality online courses to our students and professionals in East Africa. This collaboration is part of our commitment to providing accessible, flexible, and industry-relevant education. Mama Ngina University College will be one of the first higher education institutions in East Africa to offer AI for Educators a course designed to provide educators with the skills they need to employ AI in teaching.

On February 14 2025, MNUC staff led by Prof. Thomas Sakwa the Deputy Principal received Computing Equipments donated by Metropol CRB. The donation marked an important milestone in actualising the MOU that was earlier signed by the two institutions. The donated computers will play a crucial role in equipping the new MNUC ICT Innovation Lab, where students and the community will gain ICT skills and knowledge relevant to the 21st Century.
