The Human Resource Office undertook a fire safety awareness training on 17 th October, 2024 for Section Heads and other select staff particularly in the Security, Library and Caretaker Departments. The training was necessitated by a need to sensitize staff on the various types and causes of fire and its mitigation as a critical area under disaster management. The training was conducted by the Kenyatta University Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Officer, Mr. John Aywa, who trained a total of twenty (20) staff. Mr. Aywa delivered the training through power-point presentations, graphics & videos and a demonstration session. The presentation majored on literature on the legislative laws, chemistry, classes, and causes of fire while creating awareness on protection from fire as a hazard. The facilitator through graphics and video displayed actual causes and effects of fire depicting the need for all staff to take safety precaution on disaster management. Means of preventing fire both in homes and work places was emphasized before the participants were finally taken through a demonstration session, where volunteers were trained to put-out fire using water, CO 2 and Dry Chemical Powder (DCP) fire extinguishers.
