The Management Board of the University College, led by the Deputy Principal, Prof. Thomas Sakwa, received a team from the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). The purpose of the visit was to conduct a monitoring and evaluation exercise aimed at assessing the implementation of SRC advice across all public universities.
During the engagement, the SRC team highlighted its five core constitutional mandates, which guide its oversight role within the public service:
- Advising on remuneration and benefits for all State and public officers to ensure fairness, equity, and fiscal sustainability.
- Setting and reviewing remuneration structures, including job evaluation frameworks that promote transparency and competitiveness in the public sector.
- Harmonizing salaries and benefits across public institutions to minimize disparities and promote equity.
- Monitoring compliance with established remuneration policies and advising institutions on best practices for effective implementation.
- Conducting research and providing periodic reviews to ensure that public sector compensation remains aligned with economic realities and national productivity goals.
The visit offered an opportunity for open dialogue on progress, challenges, and future pathways toward ensuring that remuneration practices within the university sector remain compliant, harmonized, and supportive of national development goals.
