Empowering the Future: Highlights from Botathon #10 at MNUC

Mama Ngina University College proudly hosted a successful two-day hackathon event, BOTATHON #10. The event was graced by the Principal, Prof. Zipporah Ng’ang’a, who delivered an inspiring opening speech emphasizing the vital role of innovation in Artificial Intelligence and
Cybersecurity. Her remarks set the tone for a transformative experience centered on creativity, learning, and real-world problem solving.

The keynote address was delivered by Col (Dr.) James Kimuyu, Director of the National Computer and Cybercrime Coordination Committee (NC4). In his remarks, he addressed the growing challenges of cybersecurity facing the nation and emphasized the urgent need for innovative, home- grown solutions to tackle emerging threats in the digital space. His call to action inspired participants to approach the hackathon not just as a competition, but as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national cybersecurity resilience.

The hackathon brought together KIEP-SKIES Cohort II scholars from Mama Ngina University College, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), and Kenyatta University (KU). On the first day, participants received hands-on training designed to build their technical competencies and prepare them for the challenge ahead. The event culminated in a thrilling final day where teams showcased innovative solutions addressing real-world issues in AI and Cybersecurity. The top-performing teams were recognized for their outstanding work and presented with awards, bringing the hackathon to a celebratory and impactful close.
