On October 28th, the newly elected members of the Student Governing Council (SGC) were officially sworn into office, in line with Article 63(A) of the SAMNUC Constitution. The ceremony, that was held in the University College Lecture Theatre, was presided over by Principal Prof. Zipporah Ng’ang’a and witnessed by the Commissioner of Oaths Mr. Aaron Tanui  and the Head of Student Affairs and Outreach Ms. Josephine Nkangi. This significant event celebrated the beginning of a new chapter in student governance, as each SGC member took their oaths to serve with dedication and integrity.

During the swearing-in, each member pledged to uphold and defend the SAMNUC Constitution, safeguard the democratic rights and liberties of all members, and fulfill their duties with diligence, competence, and impartiality. They vowed to serve every member equally, regardless of race, creed, color, gender, religion, tribe, or political affiliation, and to protect members’ rights and privileges without compromise. This commitment reflects the new leaders’ understanding of the responsibilities entrusted to them as they embark on their roles in service to the student Association of MNUC.

In her Speech, the Principals key message revolved around the importance of servant leadership, inclusivity, and collaboration. She highlights the leader’s key responsibilities as to represent their peers, foster positive change, and uphold the values of integrity, diligence, and teamwork.  She encouraged leaders to balance their academic and leadership duties, engage in open dialogue, and work closely with the administration to enhance student life. The speech also acknowledges the previous leadership’s accomplishments and expresses confidence in the new leaders’ potential to make a lasting impact on the University College community. She concluded by thanking the electoral commission for conducting fairs and transparent election that has resulted in the leaders that were being celebrated. The principal thanked the delegates and the entire student community for a peaceful electioneering period.
