The National Land Commission held a Public Participation meeting with the Project Affected Persons (PAPs) on 25th March 2026 at Mama Ngina University College (MNUC. The NLC is a constitutional commission established under Article 67 (1) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010. The meeting brought together representatives from the National Land Commission (NLC), MNUC, the Mutomo Landowners Association leadership, PAPs and other key stakeholders.

The University College Management reiterated that the additional land acquisition was essential to support its growth and to meet the minimum land requirements set by the Commission for University Education (CUE) for the award of a Charter.

The NLC provided an update on the land acquisition, noting that previous process had been halted following a tribunal ruling that nullified the initial acquisition notice and compensation awards due to procedural gaps, key among them lacking public participation conducted by NLC. An appeal had been filed but was yet to be concluded. NLC proposed that for a faster conclusion, they would restart the land acquisition process.

Representatives of the PAPs expressed general support for the project if there was fair and timely compensation. Most PAPs present expressed their consent to the acquisition process by signing forms provided by NLC, signaling continued support for the University’s expansion. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment among all parties to work collaboratively towards a transparent and efficient acquisition process.
