Mama Ngina University College was honoured to host a delegation from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) on Wednesday, 22nd July 2026, for an official progress assessment visit. The visit evaluated the implementation of the nursing programme as part of the Council’s mandate to ensure compliance with national standards for nursing education and training.

The NCK delegation was led by Dr. Anne Mukuna, Director of Standards, while the Mama Ngina University College delegation was led by the Principal, Prof. Zipporah Ng’ang’a, accompanied by members of the University Management and staff from the School of Health Sciences.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Anne Mukuna  emphasized the Council’s commitment to safeguarding the quality of nursing education in Kenya through routine institutional assessments. The team reiterated the importance of adherence to the prescribed standards in curriculum implementation, staffing, clinical training infrastructure, governance and student support services to ensure the production of competent nursing professionals who uphold professionalism, patient safety and ethical practice.

The compliance assessment involved a comprehensive evaluation of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme, including a review of academic and administrative policies, staff qualifications, student support systems, students-staff ratio, laboratory facilities, clinical training facilities, teaching and learning resources and the University’s quality assurance mechanisms.

Dr. Ruth Mbugua, Dean of the School of Health Sciences, reaffirmed the School’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, clinical training and continuous quality improvement in accordance with the Nursing Council of Kenya’s regulatory standards. She emphasized that the School remains dedicated to providing a conducive learning environment that prepares competent, ethical and highly skilled nursing professionals capable of addressing the evolving healthcare needs of society.

The Registrar Academics, Dr. Benson Mburu, underscored the University’s unwavering commitment to maintaining high academic standards and ensuring that all academic programmes fully comply with the requirements of their respective professional regulatory bodies. He noted that the University College continues to strengthen its quality assurance systems to support excellence in teaching, learning research and professional training.

The University College Principal Prof. Zipporah Ng’ang’a, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to providing quality education through adequate learning resources, qualified academic staff, modern teaching and learning facilities and strong institutional governance. She noted that the University College remains committed to producing competent, ethical and globally competitive nursing professionals capable of addressing the evolving healthcare needs of society.

The compliance assessment reflects the shared commitment of the Nursing Council of Kenya and Mama Ngina University College to strengthening nursing education through continuous quality improvement, regulatory compliance and the development of highly skilled healthcare professionals who will contribute to the advancement of Kenya’s healthcare system.
