MNUC Mark the International Day of the African Child 2025

Mama Ngina University College (MNUC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education – Gatundu South Sub-County and the Department of Children Welfare, commemorated the International Day of the African Child 2025 with a vibrant event that also marked the third anniversary of its School Mentorship Programme. First initiated by the Organization of African Unity in 1991, the Day honors the 1976 Soweto Uprising, where over 10,000 black school children in South Africa protested for better education and the right to be taught in their own language. The event featured mentorship sessions for junior schools and high school learners led by MNUC students, IEEE KU Branch, and KMTC-Gatundu, creative performances by learners, and a teacher empowerment workshop on basic counselling skills conducted by MNUC faculty. The keynote address was delivered by Sr. Consolata Aloo, Executive Secretary of the Next Generation Leadership Programme at Tangaza University. Through powerful stories and reflections, she highlighted both the progress made in budgeting and planning for children’s rights in Kenya since 2010, missed opportunities to protect children, and the urgent need to ensure that no child is left behind. The event called on all sectors—government, educators, parents, faith communities, and youth—to unite in rewriting Africa’s story by protecting, empowering, and uplifting every child through intentional care, justice, and inclusive opportunity.
