UNIVERSITY SPORTS DAY: “Sports for a Drug-Free Society.

The event commenced with an opening address by Deputy Principal, Prof. Thomas Sakwa, who emphasized the significance of sports in fostering a healthy and disciplined society. This was followed by a powerful talk from University Counselor, Dr. Maria Nganga, who highlighted the seriousness of drug-related issues in our communities and reinforced the need for collective action in combating substance abuse. After the awareness session, students and staff engaged in friendly yet competitive matches across various sports, including handball, badminton, darts, table tennis, volleyball, and football, basketball, netball, chess. Notably, the staff handball team secured a victory over the students’ mens team. The participation of both students and staff created a dynamic and engaging atmosphere, strengthening bonds beyond academic settings. The success of the event was made possible through the Support of the University College management, with coordination from the Sports Office of Student Affairs and Outreach and the Human Resource Office. Mama Ngina Staff Welfare Group partnered with the university and supported the initiative by donating medals, trophies, water, and glucose for participants.
The event successfully promoted a drug-free lifestyle while fostering unity, teamwork, and a spirit of sportsmanship within the University College community.
