MNUC Sports Day 2026

Mama Ngina University College successfully held its 2026 Sports Day on Saturday, 21st March 2026 at the University College sports grounds, organized by the Office of Student Affairs and Outreach. The event brought together students and staff from the Schools of Business, Education and Humanities (SBEH), Health Sciences (SHS) and Pure and Applied Sciences (SPAS) under the theme “Athletic Fitness is Mental Fitness.”

The primary objective was to promote both physical and mental wellness, recognizing the vital role mental strength plays in enhancing athletic performance, managing stress, and supporting overall well-being.

The Sports Day featured a diverse range of activities including football, volleyball, basketball (3×3), athletics, netball, handball, badminton, table tennis, chess, darts, and team-building events such as tug of war. Participation was open to both men and women, fostering inclusivity, teamwork, and ethical competition across the university community.

A key highlight of the event was the message from NACADA, which emphasized the strong link between mental wellness and peak athletic performance. The Authority noted that University students often face academic pressure, competitive stress, and social influences that may increase vulnerability to substance abuse. NACADA advocated for drug-free sports environments, mental health awareness and the development of life skills such as discipline and emotional resilience.

Overall, the 2026 Sports Day was a significant success, effectively integrating physical activity with mental health awareness. The event not only enhanced student and staff engagement but also reinforced the importance of holistic development through sports, aligning with the university’s commitment to shaping well-rounded individuals.
