MNUC HOSTS THIRD TRAINING SESSION ON COMPETENCY-BASED EDUCATION (CBE) AHEAD OF NATIONAL ROLLOUT

Mama Ngina University College (MNUC) continues to make significant strides in preparing for the national implementation of the Competency-Based Education curriculum, following a highly successful training session held on 19th  November 2025. This marked the third major pedagogical training initiative coordinated by the University College as part of its long-term readiness plan for the 2029 CBE rollout.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Principal Prof. Thomas Sakwa emphasized the institution’s commitment to equipping its academic staff with the skills needed to deliver a modern, learner-centered curriculum. He highlighted CBE as a major shift in Kenya’s higher education landscape and encouraged staff to embrace the change with openness and innovation.

The session also received support from the Registrar (ASA), Dr. Benson Mburu, who underscored the importance of building internal capacity early enough to ensure a seamless institutional transition.

The training facilitator, Prof. Jonathan Mwema, from South Eastern Kenya University has vast experience in CBE implementation enriched the session, offering staff practical insights, evidence-based practices and hands-on exposure to competency-based curriculum design.

The CBE implementation and preparedness Chairperson Dr. Ruth Mbugua, noted that the institution remains firmly committed to delivering high-quality, learner-centered education. Our progress so far shows that MNUC is well-positioned to lead in the implementation of the CBE curriculum. With continued training, collaboration, and proactive planning, we are confident in our ability to transition smoothly into the new national education model.

It is without doubt that MNUC continues to demonstrate leadership, innovation and readiness as the country moves towards this significant transformation in higher education.
